Tips for Working out During Summer

If you are looking to take your workouts outdoors during summer there are some tips to help you prevent injury and help you get the most out of your time. Athletic Republic Parkland has prepared the following article with ideas to help you do just that!

Choose the Right Clothes

Don’t worry, you don't have to go out and buy a range of new clothing. However, you do need to be smart about the clothes you do choose from your closet. Look for items of clothing which are loose to fit or which have been designed to wick sweat away from your body. Tight items not only cause chafing and skin irritation but they often leave your sweat sitting on your skin which, when it gets cold after your workout, can cause you to fall ill.

Don’t Push Yourself Too Hard!

If you just take your winter routine and apply it to the outdoors in summer then you are setting yourself up for disaster. Simply because your body needs time to adjust to the new training environment. Instead, consider cutting back your workout just a little bit so you and your body can get used to the summer heat. This could mean jogging for a few minutes less each day or simply reducing the number of reps you do each time for the first week.

Drink!

Whether it’s a bigger bottle of water or taking a few more sips of your sports drink during your routine, it's important to pay close attention to your hydration levels during the summer weather. Why? Because the simple fact is that your body sweats more during this time which means that it needs more hydration!
